October 7th
On October 7th, 2023 the psytrance tribe was struck by an unimaginable tragedy. This is the only tribe I’ve ever truly considered my own, a collective bound by music, shared energy, and deep connections. On that day, we lost our friends and companions - dancers, musicians, and artists. These were people who had shared the dancefloors where I live and all over the world and who became part of the fabric of my life through the gatherings and festival we created or participated together.
In a remarkable act of resilience, the Nova Festival team recreated the festival site at Burning Man 2024. As the sun rose at 6:29 AM, dancers stood together beneath the canopy, a replica of the one at Nova, in remembrance of those we lost. Towering columns, designed like DNA structures, rose above them, each step etched with the name of a life taken in that horrific attack. Thousands gathered in silent tribute, holding space for the memories and the love we all shared with those who are now gone.
I believe in God, and I believe in resurrection. This faith allows me to look forward to the day when our friends return to us. Though the pain of their absence is immeasurable, i'd like to believe that is not final. We will be reunited one day, and until that time, we will continue to honor their memory through the love for music, dance, and the sense of community that brought us together in the first place.
We will dance again!
